Singapore's Nanyang Technical University - School of Art, Design and Media Building

Located at the junction of Nanyang Ave and Nanyang Drive in Singapore.

The design was conceived as 3 intertwining blocks that are apparent natural extensions of the ground. These blocks interweave to enclose a picturesque plaza and landscape. Major spaces such as the Auditorium, Media Studios, library and art galleries surround this outdoor activity node.

The highlight of the building is the verdant turfed roof which blends with the ground contour. Apart from its visual impact, the turfed roofscape is a functional space which is easily accessible via sidesteps along the roof edge, thereby allowing the rooftop to be a scenic outdoor communal space. Environmentally, it helps to lower the roof temperature and surrounding areas.

The facade design is a glass curtain wall in neutral grey colour. The remaining parts of the building comprised off-form concrete walls which eschew painting or external rendering works.

LAPCAT - A Hydrogen-powered Hypersonic Aircraft

Long-Term Advanced Propulsion Concepts and Technologies or LAPCAT for short is a project funded by European Space Agency.

This project is to examine the propulsion concepts and technologies required to reduce long-distance flights, e.g. From Brussels to Sydney, to less than 2 to 4 hours. Achieving this goal intrinsically requires a new flight regime for commercial transport with Mach numbers ranging from 4 to 8.

This require the use of a hypersonic aircraft with range up to 20,000km. The hydrogen fuel is needed to achieve this range because the fossil fuel have very low calorific energy of hydrocarbon. This aircraft is capable of achieving Mach 5 speed.

Below are some official photos from Reaction Engines

How Did You Define Maturity?

This is not my original topics. I've just came cross a blog post on Dumb Little Man: Do You Recognize the 7 Ingredients of Maturity?.

The article is about what maturity is about, in the author opinion. Yeah, you always said to someone who didn't act as he/she should, to be more mature in his/her action.

The authot suggest 7 points to refer about maturity:

  1. Maturity is the ability to control anger and settle differences without violence or destruction
  2. Maturity is patience
  3. Maturity is the capacity to face unpleasantness and frustration, discomfort and defeat, without complaint or collapse
  4. Maturity is humility
  5. Maturity is the ability to make a decision and follow through
  6. Maturity means dependability and coming through in a crisis
  7. Maturity is the art of living in peace
I'm not going to explain more. You can read the article on Dumb Little Man.

Raikkonen, Alonso, equally good; Todt

"I don't know if Kimi is better or worse than Alonso. It is not for me to say - both are excellent drivers. Instead, the differences between them are their cars," Todt told the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport.

Between them, Raikkonen and Alonso are F1's only active title holders.

Todt explain that despite Alonso has been linked with a switch to Ferrari in the future, Raikkonen is currently the most suitable of the pair for the team.

"Of them, Kimi's character is best for us," confirmed Todt.
