No Kimi-Schumi duel at Jerez

The program for Michael Schumacher's Jerez test has been modified so that the retired champion does not go head-to-head with his successor Kimi Raikkonen.

Instead, the opening two days of the final test of 2007 will be reserved for Ferrari's new world champion, with the other side of the Italian team's garage to be occupied by test driver Marc Gene.

"Kimi will test on 4 and 5 December (and) Michael on 6 and 7 December," a Ferrari spokesman told the Bild newspaper.

'The comparison (between Raikkonen and Schumacher) will not take place,' La Gazzetta dello Sport reported.

Bild, meanwhile, reasoned that separating the two famous drivers will 'enable Ferrari to make its excuses if Schumi is faster than Kimi'.

Meizu M8: iPhone clone but better?

Source from Phone China said that Meizu will bring their M8 to public appearance in the upcoming CES Electronic Show on 7-10 January 2008. The M8 is expected to be in market on the upcoming February.

Another source said that the M8 was more than 80% complete. You can see from the image below.

It's very identical to iPhone with little change. But maybe they will do better than iPhone. Maybe a little cheaper, more open to 3rd party software or else. We'll see when it's on the market soon. Hope so.

Prodrive won't be in F1 next season

Prodrive were hoping to enter the 2008 championship with a 'customer car', using a chassis designed by McLaren.

But according to Concorde Agreement, the rules that govern F1, it outlaw the use of cars manufactured by other constructors and then sold to a different team.

However, Prodrive were encouraged by FIA president Max Mosley that the rule would be scrapped for next year's competition.

A new Concorde Agreement has recently been negotiated, but it remains unsigned, meaning time has run out for Prodrive - although Richards, the man behind the team hopes to commence racing in 2009.

"So for 2008 there is not a realistic chance of there being a Prodrive F1 team."

"We must wait for the new Concorde; only then can we fully assess our options," he added.

McLaren staffer regrets Alonso exit

A McLaren technician has expressed regret that the team parted ways with Fernando Alonso after just one season.

"I do not understand how they could let him go," the anonymous McLaren staffer told the newspaper.

"Alonso is a driver who contributes a lot to his team. It is a pity he is no longer with us," he added.

The engineer said he thinks Alonso's tenure at the Woking based team was short-lived because he performs at his best as a number one driver.

"That was the only problem," the McLaren technician explained. "He works better, and his performance level is higher, when he is the team leader..."

Two free seats at Force India?

Team’s boss Colin Kolles has hinted that Adrian Sutil might not race for Force India in 2008. Probably because he is reportedly a contender to replace Fernando Alonso at McLaren.

So the list of drivers set to test for the former Spyker has grown further. Besides Christian Klien and Tonio Liuzzi, other drivers that might be testing for Force India at Jerez this December includes Frank Montagny, Giancarlo Fisichella, Ralf Schumacher and Adrian Valles.

Kolles told sportnet.at that every driver testing for Force India before Christmas is in with a chance of a 2008 seat.

"Whether we have one or two places, we will see," he added.

Kolles also said that Force India will not make its selections based on which drivers can bring the most sponsorship to the team.

"We want to have the best drivers," Kolles insisted, "so really there can no longer be any more excuses."

Force India is expected to announce its complete 2008 driver line-up before the new year.

India to host first Grand Prix in New Delhi in 2010

Bernie Ecclestone confirmed that a contract has been signed this week with JPSK Sports Private Ltd, a subsidiary of Jaiprakash Associates Limited, to stage the first ever Formula One Grand Prix in India, to be held in The National Capital Region of New Delhi in 2010.

Bernie Ecclestone said: “India has always been known for its love of cricket, but F1 has been growing hugely in popularity in recent years as the viewing figures would suggest. Now with Vijay Mallya’s team, Force India, and the news that Karun Chandhok could soon be driving in F1, the announcement of the future Grand Prix in India will spark an explosion of further interest to rival that of the traditional sport.”

Eccelestone to quit if…

Eccelestone threatens to retire over Mclaren appeal on the stewards’ decision in Interlagos. The F1 Chief Executive, has threatened to walk away from the sport if Raikkonen’s world championship snatched away by the court decision.

Hamilton, however, has said that he does not want to win a title away from the race tracks, and Ecclestone now reveals that such a scenario could compel him into retirement, 35 years after he bought the Brabham team in 1972.

"If anyone thinks that's the best thing for Formula One then I'd have very serious thoughts about me retiring," the 77-year-old is quoted as saying by The Guardian.

Schumacher fastest on test

Michael Schumacher topped the first day testing at Barcelona.

Several 2007 racers were present including Heikki Kovalainen, David Coulthard, Nick Heidfeld, Robert Kubica, Kazuki Nakajima, Jarno Trulli, Sebastian Vettel, Nico Rosberg and Anthony Davidson.

As the drivers were testing their cars, they also running the cars without traction control as they will race in 2008.

Not everyone was impressed, however. Former Ferrari champion Niki Lauda said: “For me Schumacher’s test is nothing but advertising for Marlboro, just like his recent ride on a Ducati.” (Schumacher attender a Moto GP test last week where he lapped within five seconds of the top motorbike riders.)

“I think there is a guy called Michael. It looks as though he’s got a talent. He will make his way to F1…”
Coulthard joked

Hamilton may never win title says Button

Hamilton's countryman and rival Jenson Button warned that Lewis Hamilton will never had a chance again to win a world championship.

The McLaren rookie looks capable of winning the world championship this year when he was leading the other driver in the points until the very last race at Interlagos. But errors and problems in China and Brazil cost him the world title that goes to Kimi Raikkonen of Ferrari.

Button warned that title opportunities may never come around twice.

"He's a great driver, but there are lots of great drivers in Formula One who did not have his package," said Button.

Button told the Evening Standard: "What would worry me is the lost opportunity. You can't say in my sport: 'Oh well, I only missed out by a point so next year I'll go one better'. It doesn't work like that.

"He should be sick as a dog because another chance like that might not come round again," Button added.

Alonso close to Renault return

Alonso and Renault are close to get together again for the 2008 Formula One season.

Spanish newspaper Marca claims that Alonso's final decision is still 'a few days' away, as negotiations continue smoothly. Alonso had earlier baulked at Briatore's insistence on a two or three-year agreement, but it is understood that the double world champion will instead be free to leave Renault after a single season if the team fails to meet certain minimal performance and results criteria. In the event that Renault endures another uncompetitive season in 2008, Alonso can still defect to Ferrari or BMW Sauber in 2009.

Britain's The Guardian, meanwhile, reports on Wednesday that if Alonso signs for Renault he will be partnered by Nelson Piquet Jr, with Heikki Kovalainen 'the most likely candidate' to fill Alonso's seat at McLaren. The newspaper also said 'Giancarlo Fisichella has been told there is no place for him next year.'

My favorite shortcuts (windows/application/custom)

Here are some shortcuts that I always use in my daily life.

  1. Alt+Q (close window/application) add-on for FlykiteOSX. Originally Alt+F4
  2. Alt+Tab (task switcher)
  3. Win+space (bring out the launchy)
  4. Ctrl+Tab (switch between tabs/windows in an application)
  5. Space (play/pause in iTunes)
  6. Alt+V+N (view contents of a folder with icon view) – easier to see all the files
  7. Alt+V+H (view contents of a folder with thumbnail view) – easier to see photos/pictures
  8. Alt+V+I+M (sort files by modified) – useful if you want to know which one is the latest
  9. END – after the Alt+V+I+M shortcut, I always use this to go to the last file which is the latest file.
  10. Ctrl+W (to close tab/window such as in Firefox)
  11. Ctrl+S and Ctrl+Shift+S (save files, and save file as)
  12. Ctrl+Alt+Z and Ctrl+Shift+Z (undo and redo in Photoshop, many steps)
  13. Ctrl+Enter (open selected folder in new windows)
  14. Alt+Enter (view properties of a file/folder)
  15. Alt+Enter in Media Player Classics (fullscreen view of the video)
  16. Alt+T (create new tabs in Firefox)
  17. Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, Ctrl+X (copy, paste and cut files/folder)
  18. Alt+Space+R, Alt+Space+X, Alt+Space+N (restore, maximize and minimize windows)
  19. Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I, Ctrl+U (bold, italic and underline selected word. Universally used)
There are lots more shortcuts that I’ve always use, especially in Adobe Photoshop and Firefox.

My clean & effective desktop

Here are some screenshots of my desktop. I’ve configured this new layout of my desktop last night. There’s also the previous desktop I’ve use for some months before. Maybe you can tell me how those two differs in productivity or easiness. I feel that the new desktop layout was better and faster. I mainly navigate my computer via keyboard and touchpad (for scrolling). So there’s no problem on the travelled pointers. I mean I don’t have to make lots of movements to navigate my computer as I mainly use the keyboard. But if I need to use mouse, it’s a problem because the main shortcuts is on the top and at the bottom. So the combination of the touchpad and the keyboard is best. Do comments and/or share with me about your desktop.

The previous desktop

The new desktop. I hid the desktop icons. The bottom toolbar was the desktop, the computer and the E: drive that I frequently use.

The launchy, an application to launch application. Quite useful for fast navigation. Also can be configured to open any files (documents, music, photos). Mainly used for launching application.

The start menu. Simplified, and grouped by their functions.

The bottom toolbar. Alt+click on the icon will revealed the file structure of the drive/folder just like start menu.

My computer window. I’ve set the icon for each drive. It’s easy, first copy the ico files to the drive, maybe you want to make it hidden. Then, create a new text document and save as autorun.inf. Write this code in the file:

[Autorun]
icon="iconfilename.ico"

As easy as that. To see the icon, you need to eject the drive first (or restart for the internal drive).

Invention of the year: The iPhone

On October 31, Time magazine announced the invention of the year for 2007 goes to the iPhone. Maybe you have predicted this. In the article, the authors did mention 5 reasons why the iPhone is the invention of the year.

It is because the iPhone is pretty, it's touch-feely, it will make other phones better, it's not a phone, it's a platform, and it is but the ghost of iPhones yet to come. Read the full article.

Who'll drive alongside Hamilton in '08

Hamilton said when asked about who will drive alongside him in 2008: “[Nico] Rosberg, [Adrian] Sutil or [Heikki] Kovalainen. The most important thing is that he is a team player.”

Heikki Kovalainen
Heikki would be the third Finnish driver in seven years in Mclaren after Kimi Raikkonen and Mika Hakkinen. This would be a straight swap with Renault for the outgoing Fernando Alonso.

Nico Rosberg
There has been none German driver in Mclaren throughout its 13 year association with Mercedes-Benz. Rosberg impressed everybody this season with his Williams FW29 by being the top 10 drivers on the grid. He is also a friend of Hamilton’s and a former team mate of his from when the pair were in karting.

Adrian Sutil
Another German. Perhaps a surprise to see Sutil mentioned in line with a McLaren drive. But Hamilton and Sutil were team mates in the F3 Euroseries two years ago when Hamilton decimated the opposition. A grateful Sutil could be counted upon not to rock the boat.

Confirmed: Alonso to leave McLaren for 2008

These are some statement by Alonso reported by Spain newspaper, El Mundo:

“The mutual parting of ways has not been discussed until now, since it was felt that any such discussion could have seriously disrupted the team’s and Fernando’s 2007 Formula One World Championship challenge.
Since I was a boy I had always wanted to drive for McLaren, but sometimes in life things do not work out.
I continue to believe that McLaren is a great team. Yes, we have had our ups and downs during the season, which has made it extra-challenging for all of us, and it is not a secret that I never really felt at home.
I know there have been suggestions of favouritism within the team and people say a lot of things in the heat of battle, but in the end I was always provided with an equal opportunity to win.”

Ron Dennis added:

“He is a great driver but for some reason the combination of Vodafone McLaren Mercedes and Fernando has not really worked out, and in the end we reached a stage where none of us could find a way to move forward.”
